What is Radon?

RADON GAS CAUSES
LUNG CANCER

Radon gas is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that can be found all over the world. Radon comes from the decay of uranium in the soil. As radon decays it releases radiation that can damage the DNA within the human body.

You cannot detect radon by smell, sight or taste. The only way to know if you are breathing radon gas is to perform a radon measurement. If you smoke and your home has high radon levels, you’re at high risk for developing lung cancer.

After smoking radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States. It is estimated to cause 21,000 lung cancer deaths a year. Many citizens of the United States are unaware that the air in their homes may cause lung cancer.

How does it Work?

The radon suction tap(s) are installed in the basement floor area or crawlspace. A suction tap is a 4inch hole drilled into the concrete floor creating a suction point below the slab. Radon gas and other soil gas is drawn into the suction pipes from the soil through a mechanical fan.
Attic fan installation: The suction pipe continues up the interior foundation walls, into the attic where the radon fan will be located. The exhaust riser typically exits out the rear side of the roof through a weather proof flashing boot away from any reentry points.
Exterior fan installation: The suction pipe exits out the least noticeable side of the building or home where the radon fan is located. A decorative matching downspout riser pipe continues up along the exterior wall to vent away from any reentry points.
Electrical disconnects are hard wired and within sight of the fans. A visual indicator called a Utube manometer is installed on the riser pipe to confirm system airflow operation.

The owner, Mr. Lehman, came out and explained the process of installing the radon system. He was very knowledgeable and put my husband and I at ease for the sale of our property. The radon levels came down and we were very with happy Alpha Radon Reduction.

Kathleen L.

We had another company install our radon system 5 years ago. Our radon fan stopped working and called Alpha Radon Reduction. They informed us that our system was not installed properly and gave us a quote to correct the problems. After the work was completed our radon levels came in lower than the previous company’s system. Thank you Alpha Radon Reduction.
